The Ramparts of Ice Season 2 unveils trailer ahead of October Netflix premiere
The relationship drama returns with new emotional complications, a 1 October Japanese broadcast and a 2 October global Netflix launch.
The Ramparts of Ice is returning for a second season, and its new trailer suggests that the series’ emotional walls are about to become even harder to climb.
The anime’s second season premieres in Japan on 1 October 2026, while Netflix lists the worldwide streaming launch as 2 October. New episodes will arrive weekly.
The series is based on Kōcha Agasawa’s manga and follows four teenagers whose friendships, crushes and insecurities keep colliding in increasingly complicated ways.
Four hearts, very little emotional clarity
Koyuki Hikawa is an aloof high-school student who struggles to get close to other people. She keeps everyone at a distance, building what the series treats as an emotional wall around herself.
Her quiet routine begins to change when Minato Amamiya repeatedly pushes his way into her life. Their relationship sits alongside Koyuki’s friendship with Miki Azumi, a popular girl, and Yōta Hino, a laid-back basketball player.
The four form the centre of a coming-of-age drama about people who care about each other but are not particularly talented at saying what they actually feel. The new trailer highlights the group’s shifting relationships and the possibility that the friendships holding them together may also be the things causing the most pain.
When does Season 2 premiere?
Season 2 begins its Japanese television broadcast on Thursday, 1 October at 11:56 p.m. on TBS and 27 affiliated channels. Netflix will stream the season globally from 2 October, with regional availability and timing subject to local release schedules.
The returning cast includes Anna Nagase as Koyuki, Fūka Izumi as Miki, Shōya Chiba as Minato and Satoshi Inomata as Yōta. Chiaki Kobayashi, Sakura Shinfuku, Akari Kitō, Kakeru Hatano and Natsumi Kawaida also return in supporting roles.
Returning staff and new music
Mankyū returns to direct the anime at Studio KAI, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi handling series composition and scripts, Miki Ogino designing the characters, and Kanade Sakuma and Natsumi Tabuchi composing the music.
Novelbright performs the opening theme, Tōmei, while Polkadot Stingray performs the ending theme, Sakasama.
The first season premiered in Japan and globally on Netflix in April 2026. Agasawa’s original manga was first published as a webtoon through the LINE Manga app and concluded with its 14th compiled volume in February 2025.
Our opinion
The Ramparts of Ice works because it understands that teenage romance is rarely a clean triangle. It is usually four people making assumptions, avoiding conversations and then being surprised when everyone feels miserable.
Koyuki’s emotional distance gives the series a strong centre, but the ensemble is what makes it more than a standard will-they-won’t-they story. Miki, Minato and Yōta each bring their own expectations to the group, which means one person’s attempt to be honest can easily become somebody else’s crisis.
The second season trailer appears to be leaning into that discomfort rather than rushing towards easy resolutions. That is encouraging. The show is at its best when its characters feel frustrating because they are recognisably human, not because the plot is physically holding their mouths shut.
If Season 2 keeps that balance, Netflix has another quietly addictive relationship drama on its hands — the sort where “just one more episode” becomes a regrettable 2 a.m. decision.
